Pleased to say that I put the finishing touches on my mural for Lollapalooza 2015 yesterday! I'm so happy with how it came out. The real magic of the piece, will "come to light", so to speak, when night falls, as there are hidden elements that have been painted with a glow-in-the-dark coating.
The shipping container that the mural was painted on will be dropped off near "Perry's" EDM or electronic dance music stage. My piece celebrates the primitive and ritualistic
origins of dance as a conduit for ecstatic and trance states of
consciousness. Imagery of drums, serpents, human bones and droplets of
fluid serve as archetypal glyphs that hint at the arcane and ophidian
roots of the ancient rites of rhythm.
If you're going
to Lolla, please be sure to check out the mural, as it's much more
effective in person. And don't forget to also view Heather Gabel's
beautiful piece on the flip side of mine. Her piece is the silvery,
feminine and lunar counterpart to the gold, masculine and solar aspects
of my piece. It was an honor to work alongside her on this. Special
thanks is again due to Johalla Projects for giving me the opportunity to do this public work.
